Limerick Vascular - Professor Eamon Kavanagh
Biography
Education and Training
Prof. Eamon G. Kavanagh, MD, FRCSI, FEBVS, a native of Limerick, he graduated from UCC in 1993 and underwent basic surgical training at Cork University Hospital. He was awarded an Ainsworth scholarship to conduct research at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston and received an MD by thesis from UCC. He completed Higher Surgical Training in Ireland with an Endovascular Fellowship at St. James’s Hospital Dublin 2004-5.
Eamon is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the European Board of Vascular Surgery and he is Vascular Training Programme Director for RCSI and a European Board Examiner.
Eamon is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University Hospital Limerick and at Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons since 2005 and is an adjunct Clinical Professor at UL Graduate Entry Medical School since 2019.
Clinical Interests
His clinical interests include Endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, Carotid Artery Disease, Peripheral Arterial Disease – Angioplasty and Stenting, Arterial bypass surgery, minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins, leg ulcers and all aspects of venous disease. His academic interests, as part of an active research group, focus on development of novel vascular devices and improving the understanding and management of vascular disease processes.
Limerick Vascular - Mr. Tony Moloney
Biography
Education and Training
Mr Tony Moloney is originally from Dungarvan, Co Waterford and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1999. He completed Basic and Higher Surgical Training in Ireland, a Higher Diploma in Quality in Healthcare, a Doctor of Medicine Masters and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009.
Tony spent a number of years in Toronto, completing a 1-year Fellowship in Vascular/Endovascular Surgery at the University of Toronto in 2010 and was appointed as a locum consultant Vascular/Endovascular Surgeon at the Toronto General Hospital from 2010 to 2011 before going on Staff at St Michael's Hospital, Toronto in July 2011.
Tony joined the UL Hospital Group as Consultant Vascular Surgeon in 2015. He is an adjunct Senior Lecturer at UL Graduate Entry Medical School and serves on the RCSI postgraduate vascular training committee.
Clinical Interests
Tony’s clinical interests include open vascular and endovascular surgery; carotid surgery; percutaneous approaches to peripheral arterial disease; and endovenous management of varicose veins. His special interests include Complex Aortic Pathology, Type B Aortic dissections and Vascular Trauma. His current academic interests include: Online solutions to risk factor management in peripheral arterial disease (following an eHealth Masters at McMaster University, Hamilton); Quality & Safety in Healthcare; and Clinical Audit & Outcomes.
Limerick Vascular - Mr Mekki Medani
Biography
Education and Training
Mr Mekki Medani graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with honours, attaining all the first-place prizes in surgery. He completed his basic surgical training in Limerick and went on to obtain an MD from UCD. He then went on to conclude his higher surgical training, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2019. He was appointed as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon in the UL Hospital Group after completing a fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2020.
Clinical Interests
Mekki’s clinical interests include peripheral arterial disease (percutaneous revascularisation with angioplasty/stenting, bypass surgery, and hybrid procedures), carotid artery surgery and stroke prevention, open and endovascular aortic surgery, and minimally invasive varicose vein surgery. His special interest area is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome – diagnosis and treatment with surgical decompression.

How can I book an Appointment?
To book an appointment with Limerick Vascular you will need a GP Referral. To get a referral simply visit your GP to discuss your healthcare options and request a referral to our service. Once you have the referral you can book an appointment directly with us.
Can I claim back on my private health insurance?
Our services are covered by many healthcare insurers. Please consult your policy for exact cover. In order to satisfy your insurance company, you may need to have a GP referral before booking an appointment with us.
Please note that the initial consultation fee may not be fully reimbursed by insurance.
Are procedures carried out in your clinic?
For patients with varicose veins and related problems a venous duplex scan may be carried out in the clinic on the day of your appointment, this scan is fully covered by all major healthcare insurers.
All vascular surgical procedures will be carried out by our consultants at one of the hospitals in which they work which include University Hospital Limerick, St. John’s Hospital, Ennis Hospital, Nenagh Hospital, Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons.
